Two professional SunCapsule booths, thoughtfully matched to your skin type, your pace, and your goals. Standard or premium — your glow, your way.
The X8 and X7 SunCapsule booths offer two distinct tanning experiences. Our staff will help you choose the right starting point based on your skin type and experience.
The X8 is your ideal starting point. A warm, enveloping round capsule with 220W lamps and up to 8 minutes per session. The round shape delivers even coverage and a consistent result. This is the booth we recommend for new tanners, those building a base, or anyone who tans regularly and wants reliable results at a great value.
The X7 Premium is for experienced tanners who want a more intense session in less time. The angular capsule design and premium lamp configuration deliver a stronger result in a shorter window. At 7 minutes maximum per session, every minute counts. Recommended for those with an established tan base and a skin type of III or higher.
Purchase a minutes package and use them across either booth at your pace. Minutes never expire and can be split however you like between X8 and X7 sessions.
Chinook Glow operates in full compliance with Health Canada's Guidelines for Tanning Equipment Owners, Operators and Users, and the Radiation Emitting Devices Regulations (Tanning Equipment).
Our SunCapsule X7 and X8 booths run 220W VHR high-pressure lamps — significantly more powerful than the equipment at most tanning studios in the area. That changes how we have to start you, and how often you can safely come back.
Even experienced tanners from other salons will notice the difference with our bulbs. We begin new and infrequent tanners at 2 minutes, and experienced tanners at 3 minutes. It's not about being cautious for the sake of it — it's about letting your skin tell us how it responds before we increase your time. A great tan is a gradual one.
If you haven't tanned recently — or ever — your skin hasn't been exposed to bulbs this powerful. We start you at 2 minutes to let your skin respond safely before building up.
Even if you're a regular tanner elsewhere, our 220W VHR bulbs are almost certainly stronger than what you've been using. We start you at 3 minutes until we know how your skin reacts.
Alberta regulations require a minimum of 24 hours between tanning sessions. At Chinook Glow, we strongly recommend 48 hours — especially in your first few visits. Our bulbs are working harder than what your skin may be used to, and that recovery window makes a real difference in your results and your skin health.
If we see bookings that are too close together, or session times we haven't yet cleared for your skin, we reserve the right to cancel or adjust those sessions. This isn't a policy we enforce to be difficult — it's because we genuinely don't want anyone to burn, and we take that seriously.
Chinook Glow reserves the right to cancel bookings where sessions are scheduled less than 48 hours apart, or where session times exceed what has been confirmed safe for your skin type. We will always reach out before doing so. Our priority is your skin — not your booking count.
Your glow should feel good. We'll make sure it does.
We stock professional-grade eyewear and tanning lotions specifically selected for use with the SunCapsule X8 and X7. Our staff can help you choose the right product for your skin type.
Health Canada and manufacturer guidelines require proper UV-blocking eye protection during every tanning session. Standard sunglasses do not provide adequate protection — UV rays pass through standard lenses and can cause serious eye injury including photokeratitis, cataracts, and long-term vision damage. We carry professional tanning goggles that provide full UV-A and UV-B blocking coverage, available for purchase at the front desk.
The right lotion makes a meaningful difference to the quality and longevity of your tan. We carry a curated selection of professional indoor tanning lotions designed specifically for use in UV booths — not outdoor sunscreen. These formulas maximise melanin activation, hydrate the skin during UV exposure, and extend the life of your tan between sessions. Our staff can recommend the right formula for your skin type and tanning goals.
A lotion before your session and a moisturiser after aren't optional add-ons — they're how you get a tan that actually develops well and lasts. Here's what each one is doing for you.
Not every lotion does the same job. Here's a quick guide so you know what to ask for — or what to look at on the shelf.
Best for beginners. Boosts UV response with no added bronzer. Pure tan building.
Cosmetic or natural — adds instant glow while your UV tan develops underneath.
Experienced tanners only. Increases circulation to the skin for deeper colour.
After-tan use. Locks in moisture and slows colour fade between sessions.
You're welcome to bring your own lotion to Chinook Glow, as long as our staff approves it before use. Just bring it to the desk and we'll check it over — takes 30 seconds. Some products will damage our equipment permanently or react badly with our bulbs, so this isn't optional.
Not sure if yours qualifies? We carry a full range of approved pre and after-tan products at the front desk — and we're happy to help you find the right match for your skin type.
The Fitzpatrick Skin Phototype Scale is the gold standard classification system used by dermatologists worldwide to assess how skin responds to UV light. Developed in 1975 by Harvard dermatologist Thomas B. Fitzpatrick, it divides skin into six types based on melanin content and reaction to sun exposure.
At Chinook Glow, we use this assessment to set your safe starting exposure time and recommend which booth is right for you. Your skin type is assessed at your first visit and recorded in your client file. It takes 2 minutes and protects you from overexposure.
Answer 6 quick questions based on your natural skin characteristics and how your skin responds to sun. This is a guide — our staff will confirm your type at your first visit.
This quiz is a general guide. Your Chinook Glow staff will confirm your official skin type at your first visit and set your session time accordingly.

Chinook Glow operates in compliance with Health Canada's Guidelines for Tanning Equipment Owners, Operators and Users and the Radiation Emitting Devices Regulations (Tanning Equipment), in force May 7, 2014. UV tanning involves exposure to ultraviolet radiation, which is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Skin damage from UV exposure is cumulative. Chinook Glow strongly recommends all clients understand the health risks associated with UV tanning before using our equipment. The Fitzpatrick Skin Type quiz on this page is a general educational guide — official skin type assessment is conducted by trained Chinook Glow staff at your first visit. Tanning equipment is not permitted for use by anyone under the age of 18 in accordance with Alberta's Skin Cancer Prevention (Artificial Tanning) Act.
